messin' around with a sketch i did in a meeting.. was just gonna add some subtle shadows to a white background or something, and ended up taking it a little further.
more importantly, CHECK THIS OUT:
some RAAAAAD Zelda action going on. like some nice bass? how about mystical guitars? hidden fairy fountains!? if you answered yes to any of these questions, you owe it to yourself to have a listen.

100th POST!? Bof...
for a little exercise at work a while back that i touched up just a little bit today. goal was to do a mash-up of random "cold" themed pictures we had, in whatever way you were inspired to. tried out some good brushes at the same time (the oil brushes were especially good.)
also, here's a french dude i doodled in a meeting. gotta love the french. they kind of make THE BEST comic books i've ever seen..
also... kind of obsessed with this song by imagine dragons... you might think i was unhealthy if i revealed how many times i've listened to this song in the past few days.....
heh heh..

on the music side, been making some playlists i can just cycle through at work... got about 20 Atmosphere songs i've had on repeat for a few weeks straight now. figured i'd share some. you can't really top sincerity, in drawing or music (or anything else) and these songs are packed with it. don't know many other rappers who do it quite like Slug (he just might be my favorite) even some of the more dark stuff he does can still strike a chord because of how SINCERE this dood can get. match that with Ant's sick production abilities (coincidentally probably my favorite producer too) and you get some REALLY good music. these are some of the more positive one's (to me) that hit hard.
Yesterday
Little Man
My Notes
Get Fly (LOVE the outro.......)
and this NEXT ONE is just too good. while going to school, i ran into quite a few people not from Utah who were always quick to drop judgement on the state and generalize the entire inhabitants - so this one i kinda feel is like a nice burn on people like that.. heh.
Say Shh
also real quick - check out ANTLER BOY AND OTHER STORIES on kickstarter!! my drawing sensei from about a year and a half ago is KILLING it over there. like comics/cool stories/rad stuff in general???????????????? i do. totally getting the book.

Symmetry
another exercise at work. supposed to use the symmetry tool in painter, sketchbook pro, or something else - and then maybe introduce some non-symmetrical stuff to keep it interesting. to bad photoshop doesn't have one of those...
after a lot of internet surfing, i don't even think a plugin exists for it that you could get. so i did it all manually, flipping the image every now and then to see how it was going. pretty fun!! more fun if you could see the mirror image going on in real time.
thought i'd keep things even LOOSER than i've been messing around with. good times.

Bike Girl, and some Bruce Lee ramblings
another exercise at work - supposed to do something inspired by the
photo... and for some reason, i really wasn't feeling anything that day
except for the fact that she had a hood, and a dog. one thing led to
another, the whole time me not really being sure what was happening...
and now here we are!!
trying to push the loose feel i had a couple posts ago, but maybe in a slightly different direction. agonized over color scheme for about 4 days... at peace with myself now.. haha. fun times.
also... trying REALLY hard not to use the word "style."
i watched I AM BRUCE LEE last week, and was reminded of some really cool stuff I had written down a long time ago after reading through Jeet Kune Do, basically Bruce Lee's personal study journal, and applying it to other things in life. like drawing!
probably a post for another time, but here's basically what i got out of it:
work hard to find what works best for you, but be honest about what's working. and eventually, you'll be able to honestly express yourself through what you're doing - even though it's HARD WORK to pull that off. styles separate people and prevent more collaborative learning opportunities, so we shouldn't conform to them - "styles" should conform to PEOPLE. the individual is more important than "the" martial art being taught, the type of brush somebody's using in photoshop, the bread somebody uses to make a sandwich... you get the idea.
it's all about how you do what you do, and nobody's better at doing what you do than YOU. the trick is filtering through principles, techniques, and people using them, to find your own - all while trying to find that harmony with yourself, other people, and whatever situation you're in.
easiest for me to quantify all of this into (since i've played A LOT of) fighting games:
>>level one - button mashing (familiarizing self with characters, environments, game situations)
>>level two - learning moves (familiarizing self with how to use characters in environments and situations)
>>level three - timing moves (familiarizing self with when to use character's moves in based on experience in situations)
>>level four - instinct and feeling (familiarizing time is OVER, except for playing against new people - technique, timing in situation all instinctively done almost on their own - using instinct also to know when to revert back to any of the previous levels for a desired effect)
kinda fun to see what that means in other areas of life. like making sandwiches or something. heh.
....i think i'll stop right there. once i get started on this kind of stuff it's hard for me to stop. and it's late.
props if you actually read through all of that - double props for if it was actually somehow meaningful to you.
goodnight.

SABREPULSE!!
today's post is brought to you by the color purple.
just some doodles from work i had to experiment with. just pushing stuff to the point were the lines are almost being overpowered by rendering/color, and then pulling back a little. i actually really like how these are both feeling to me..
also, this post is brought to you by the psychedelic electro-crack infused 8-bit sounds of SABREPULSE!
just found this guy a couple of weeks ago, and have so far been digging what i've heard. he's like a heavier electro version of ANAMANAGUCHI, (HUGE anamanaguchi fan by the way.)

NY ANGEL
more exercising at work. this time, mash-ups. however you wanna do it - take the rendering style from one, character from another, color scheme from another. or mash two characters together and use the rendering style.... you get the idea.
